Happy 49th Birthday Singapore!

Since we are studying in Singapore, why not wish this dear country for their 49th Independence day right? :) So let's do a post on it!

The celebration is of course spectacular especially with the annual National Day Parade(NDP). Other than showcasing the army forces, the parade follows by different cultural performances and ends with a big boom (literal booms, fireworks).
The following video features time lapses shot in Singapore and the fireworks from the NDP. It shows how beautiful this city is and how mysterious it can be, calling out for us to explore the truth and history behind the beautiful skyline that it has, and of course the celebration of where they are today.

Here's a little bit of history on how Singapore was founded and how 9 August became the national day for them:

Singapore Independence Timeline (C) Clement C

As we know, Singapore and Malaysia has always been sister countries, the separation was truly sad as you can see described by Lee Kwan Yew himself:

After the independence, Singapore continues to excel to become what it is today, a modern city, the hub and heart of Asia, one of the best city in the world.

And I believe too that has provided us the chance to get greater education no too far away from home. Indeed Malaysia and Singapore can say has so much similarity it almost felt like we never left home.

We share similar foods

We share the same 3 main races (Malay, Chinese and Indians)

We speak the same languages (and we both understand when the term "la")

We have the same weather (Sun or Rain, 365 summer)

And to get home its just across the border (well not all of us though)

We have so much in common, it is also hard for foreigners to tell the differences between us. Some may also though we are the same country. Basically its our second home away from Malaysia. So as we strive and try to make a living in this lovely sister country, let us appreciate it everyday, get to know more about it, especially its rich history and culture.

Once again, happy birthday Singapore!
