Lunar New Year 2014

Lunar New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the first day of the year of the Chinese calendarIt is not only a festival for people from China, but also for all the Chinese around the world. Besides, LNY is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name.

During LNY, family get the chance to have reunion dinner together. This is a must things to do for everybody.
No matter how far the person is away from home, he or she will still go back home for LNY.
Even though some of the time son who is working outside may fail to come back and celebrate due to overloaded work, they try their best to be present as possible.

Angpaw (Hokkien dialect), it also known as red packet; Angpow is a monetary gift which is given during LNY or special occasions (for example a wish for someone who will go out for work or study and someone during his birthday). It is known as hóngbāo in Mandarin. Teenagers are particularly happy to celebrate LNY as they will have the chance to receive many angpow so that they could choose to spend or save them for future. However, it will be a so called "money spending day" for adult and elderly.
People is able to get angpow until they get married

Red is a favorite colour during LNY as it means prosperity and luck. Thus, people tend to make their surroundings as red as possible, regardless of their Angpaw, outfit or decoration.
